Wonderful family hike

The trail leads you across lush green meadows from the train station in Weissbad to Rechböhl and further up through the shady forest to Klosterspitz. Nestled in a pretty basin, you can see the village of Appenzell to the north and the lovely Schwendetal valley to the south-east. Passing the huts of Neuenalp, the trail continues through the high moor. This has been of national importance since 1992 and is under protection. Continue in a westerly direction to the Vorder- and Hinter-Wasserschaffen Alps. Here, let your gaze wander northwards to the Säntis chain with Ebenalp, Schäfler, Altenalp towers, Öhrli and Säntis. You reach the Scheidegg mountain inn via Alp Blatten. The rest of the trail leads you past the Jakobskapelle chapel and steadily uphill to the Kronberg.

The best way to get to this hike is by public transport. If you are traveling by car, we advise you to park your car in Jakobsbad and take the Appenzeller Bahnen to Weissbad, the starting point of the hike. This way, you can comfortably use the cable car for the descent after the hike.

Tip

Along the way, there are inviting fireplaces for a barbecue
