Start of construction for renovation of the Kronberg valley restaurant
Construction work begins today on the renovation of the Kronberg valley restaurant. Kronberg AG is investing around CHF 2.4 million in the comprehensive renovation of the valley's gastronomic centerpiece. A phased reopening is planned from late spring 2026.
Today's start of construction marks a visible milestone in the further development of Kronberg. The existing valley restaurant dates back to 2011. Since then, requirements have changed significantly: guest numbers have risen steadily, new attractions such as the adventure world with zipline-park the fairy-tale-world a ball park have brought additional visitors, and the existing infrastructure is reaching its limits, especially on peak days. The renovation includes both structural renovations and functional expansions. On the ground floor, catering processes will be optimized, the quality of the guest experience will be improved, and capacity will be increased on busy days. A particular focus is on relieving pressure on central areas and on modern, efficient operating processes. In addition, additional space will be created for urgently needed sanitary facilities as well as for storage and logistics. With the renovation of the valley restaurant, Kronberg AG is underlining its ambition to position Kronberg as an attractive, innovative, and economically sustainable destination in eastern Switzerland in the long term. "With today's start of construction, we are consciously investing in the future viability of our company and laying the foundation for further qualitative growth," says Thomas Bischofberger, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kronberg AG. Today, a visible milestone has already been achieved: the roof on the upper floor of the valley restaurant has been erected. As part of the renovation, the building's terrace will be completely covered, providing guests with weather protection and year-round usability.
Strengthening the year-round offering
A key element of the project is improving the usability of the upper floor. In future, this will be accessible without barriers and will offer new, flexible spaces for companies, clubs, and groups. The interior spaces are specifically designed for organizations and enable attractive experiences even in cool or wet weather. Kronberg is thus creating the conditions for strengthening the position of the valley restaurant outside the traditional high season and expanding it in a targeted manner. The focus is on new group activities that are unique in Eastern Switzerland. In future, companies and groups will be able to choose from specially developed formats that combine team spirit, creativity, and experience and are embedded in the existing Kronberg experience world. The offerings range from interactive team challenges to experience-oriented tasks that can be combined indoors and outdoors and ideally combined with catering, aperitifs, or supporting programs. In addition, seminars with creative workspaces are now also offered. The rooms are designed to facilitate concentrated work, creative processes, and informal exchange in equal measure. Flexible furniture, inspiring interior design, and close proximity to nature create the ideal conditions for workshops, strategy days, or smaller conferences. "Our goal is to further develop Kronberg as a year-round meeting place for families, groups, and companies, while at the same time improving operational processes in a sustainable manner," adds Felix Merz, Managing Director of Kronberg AG.
Efficiency, quality, and guest comfort
In addition to the structural renovation, the catering concept is also being further developed. Among other things, digital ordering systems are planned to improve the guest experience and relieve staff on busy days. The new structures will enable higher service quality, more efficient staff deployment, and a consistent offering throughout the year.
The total investment for renovation, expansion, and replacement investments amounts to around CHF 2.4 million. After construction begins in January 2026, the reopening will take place in stages: an initial partial opening is planned for late spring, with full commissioning in time for the 2026 summer season.
Operation during the renovation phase and seasonal highlights
During the renovation phase, the valley restaurant will be closed from January 1, 2026, until its reopening. The Mountain restaurant Kronberg will welcome guests without restriction during this time and, together with the cable car , will ensure proper and continuous cable car .
Regardless of the renovation of the valley restaurant, Kronberg offers a wide range of experiences all year round. In winter, it delights visitors with the longest toboggan run in eastern Switzerland. On days with little snow, it switches to summer mode, with toboggan ride, zipline-park other activities in the valley. The 2026 summer season will start as usual on Good Friday, Friday, April 3, 2026. The first seasonal highlight will follow on Saturday, April 11, 2026, with the third edition of the largest drone show in Eastern Switzerland.
