Kronberg kicks off the summer season
Following a maintenance period of about four weeks, Kronberg will resume summer operations on Good Friday, April 3, 2026. From that date on, all facilities will be open daily. The first highlight will take place on Saturday, April 11, 2026, with the largest drone show in Eastern Switzerland.
The annual technical inspection at Kronberg was completed on schedule. The cable car, the restaurants, and the attractions in the valley were thoroughly inspected and prepared for summer operations. With the start of the season, all amenities are once again available to guests. Just one week later, the drone show in the valley marks the first highlight on the event calendar. Following two successful editions, the event is taking place for the third time and this year’s theme is water. The 200 drones will create a coordinated light and formation show, complemented by additional video and water elements. The supporting program kicks off at 2 p.m. on the grounds around the valley station in Jakobsbad with a street food festival and a live concert by the Appenzell band “Enderlin Chicks.” Compared to last year, the offerings have been specifically expanded. “We have further developed the concept based on last year’s experience and specifically expanded the infrastructure,” says Felix Merz, Managing Director of Kronberg AG. Plans include additional food stands, more seating, and expanded restroom facilities. Traveling by public transportation is recommended, as parking is limited. In cooperation with Appenzeller Bahnen, extra trains will be operated and additional staff will be on site. The drone show begins at 9:15 p.m., and admission is free. On the day of the event, the cable car the Mountain restaurant will be Mountain restaurant .
The valley restaurant is being renovated
In connection with the drone show, the area surrounding the construction site of the Talrestaurant in Jakobsbad will be cordoned off. Since January, the Talrestaurant has been undergoing extensive renovation and expansion. The goal is to modernize the existing infrastructure and tailor the offerings specifically to the future needs of guests, groups, and companies. The total investment for renovation, expansion, and replacement investments amounts to approximately CHF 2.4 million. A central element of the project is improving the usability of the upper floor. In the future, this floor will be fully accessible and offer flexible spaces for seminars, workshops, and club and group events. The new spatial configurations will make it possible to host events regardless of weather conditions and to position Kronberg more effectively even outside the traditional peak season. At the same time, the dining concept is being further developed. Plans include optimized operational processes and the implementation of digital ordering systems to enhance service quality and streamline staffing. “With this renovation, we are specifically strengthening the year-round offerings in the valley and creating additional opportunities for various stakeholders,” says Felix Merz. The reopening of the valley restaurant is scheduled to take place in phases starting in late spring 2026. Construction work is proceeding according to plan.
