On the Kronberg you will find five take-off sites that allow you to take off in all directions. Three launch sites are located directly at the mountain station. The second northern launch site can be reached on foot in around 10 minutes, as can the eastern launch site, which is accessible after a 10-minute walk from the summit.

No flying skills? No problem! We won't leave you hanging. Fulfill your dream of flying and glide as a passenger over our impressive mountain landscape.

Starting places

South launch (1640m)
Orientation S-SW, only launch site with south (west) wind in the Alpstein! Lay out below the tow lift cable. Shortly after take-off, turn 90 degrees to the right to pass between the trees. If you are not high enough, you can land straight ahead on the small saddle.

West start (1640m)
Orientation W-WNW; long, increasingly sloping meadow, therefore ideal; to the right (north), however, a drop-off, to the left fir trees. Schools have priority. So be careful with southern influence and detachments at the edge of the forest.
Please note: don't lose altitude too long before the launch site, it's still a long way to the landing site!

North launch (1640m)
Facing NW-NE; only suitable for safe launchers and only recommended if there is sufficient wind. There is just enough space to lay out a glider on the path; when the lines are taut, you are already on the steep slope. This is not a cliff, but should still be used with caution.

North launch 2 (1640m)
After a 5-minute walk in an easterly direction, you will reach the second north launch site. This is a little easier than the north launch site at the mountain station, but caution is advised, especially in north-easterly winds, as the hill to the right of the launch site creates turbulence. This launch site is used by the flying schools.

East start (1640m)
After about 10 minutes of walking in an easterly direction, you will reach the east start. This is located directly in front of the steep hiking trail section towards the chapel. If you take off here, make sure you fly over the ridge towards the landing site as quickly as possible. The take-off area is spacious and not steep.

Wildlife protection
No special comments. The following wildlife protection conditions must be observed.

Dangers

The railroad cables are not a problem in principle; only the fact that they run across the valley and have to be crossed before reaching the landing site when taking off in the south or west makes it necessary to include them as an important part of the flight planning, otherwise you will be walking the last third. Flying under them is prohibited.

Flying schools

These flight schools are among the best in the region and offer the highest safety standards and professional support. Experienced flight instructors will accompany you from theory to your first flights. You can find more information about the individual flight schools and what they offer here:
